Catalog of the 3rd Havana Biennial, Havana, curated by Gerardo Mosquera (27.10–31.12.1989). Established in 1984, well before the post-89 wave of new biennales cropped up, the Havana Biennial expanded its focus already with the second edition (1986) to include Africa and Asia and became a kind of meeting point for ‘non-Western’ artists even before the political changes of 1989 ushered in a more globalized contemporary art scene. The main theme of the third Biennial was Tradition and Contemporaneity and included in international conference on Tradition and Contemporaneity in the Arts of the Third World. The exhibition included 300 artists from 41 countries.
