      1. Ph.D. dissertation analyzing the globalization of contemporary art and the global art world itself. Byder considers the argument that the globalization of the art world, along with the rise of international exhibitions such as biennials, has contributed to a chipping away at Western European and US hegemony when it comes to contemporary art. Instead she suggests that these changes have only entrenched hierarchies, standards of value, and commodification and can be linked to the rise of labor-market precarity in the art field.
