      1. Catalog of the exhibition Aperto 93 Emergency/Emergenza, which was part of the 45th Venice Biennale, Venice, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva with Helena Kontova (14.06.–10.10.1993). Aperto ’93 was the product of an exchange among 13 curators (Helena Kontova, Francesco Bonami, Jeffrey Deitch, Nicolas Bourriaud, Matthew Slotover, Berta Sichel, Kong Changan, Robert Kicklas, Thomas Locher, Benjamin Weil, Mike Hubert, Antonio d’Avossa, Rosma Scuteri) who were invited to develop a theme chosen among 5 states of emergency: ‘the entropy of art, nature, and the body; Violence; Survival; Marginalization; and Difference.’ This exhibition was a significant survey of 1990s art (although it took place already in 1993); so many of the important international contemporary artists of the decade (particularly those represented by major commercial galleries) appear in the show that it can be seen as a kind of ‘who’s who’ of 1990s art. Artists included: Elke Krystufek (AT), Pipilotti Rist (CH), Matthew Barney (US), Maurizio Catalan (IT), Paul McCarthy (US), Philippe Pareno (FR), Matt Collishaw (GB), Damien Hirst (GB), Rirkrit Tiravanija (Thailand), Doris Salcedo (Columbia), Nedko Solakov (BG), Felix Gonzalez-Torres (US), Regina Moeller (DE), Sylvie Fleury (CH), Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster (FR), John Currin (US), Maria Eichhorn (DE), Carsten Höller (DE), Marcelo Exposito (ES), and many more.
