Beyond Belief: Contemporary Art from East Central Europe was a group exhibition curated by Laura J. Hoptman at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (02.09–27.11.1995) (subsequently traveled to Ohio, Philadelphia, and Omaha). One of the first exhibitions in the US devoted to ‘post-communist’ artistic positions; it relied on the expertise of a number of European advisors in each of the countries where the curator did research (Piotr Piotrowski, Roxana Marcoci, Anda Rottenberg, etc.). See the timeline East Central Europe 1945 to 1995. Exhibited artists included: Luchezar Boyadijev, David Černy, Róza El-Hassan, Iosif Kiraly, Zbigniew Libera, etc.
