A concise exploration of political engagement in art through a discussion of three works (Silvia Kolbowski, After Hiroshima mon amour, 2005–2008; Leslie Thornton, Let Me Count the Ways (2004-2008); and Krzysztof Wodiczko, Hiroshima Projection, 1999), each of which used the atomic bomb as a catalyst and image for exploring historical trauma, war, and the potential for resistance in our militarized world. An examination of how images of war and conflict are instrumentalized in the mass media and by politicians looking to gain support for interventionist policies.
