Major reader/exhibition catalog accompanying the exhibition Making Things Public: Atmospheres of Democracy, curated by Bruno Latour and Peter Weibel, ZKM, Karlsruhe (2005). The project, ‘addresses the challenge of renewing politics by applying to it the spirit of art and science’ and is in particular concerned with an exploration of how a ‘public’ might be constituted, the space of the ‘public sphere,’ the existence of politics in other realms (linked to technological developments, networks, conversations, etc.) as well as of course in the discourses of art. Thematic sections of the exhibition included topics such as No Politics, Please, Assembly of Assemblies, and The Parliaments of Nature. The book contains contributions by over 100 writers, thinkers, theorists, and artists including Donna Haraway, Richard Rorty, The images in the book explore the idea of what Latour and Weibel call ‘object-oriented democracy.’
