Catalog of the exhibition Metropolis: Internationale Kunstausstellung Berli, curated by Christos M. Joachimides and Norman Rosenthal, Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin (20.04.–21.07.1991). Metropolis was a major exhibition of (early) 1990s art, which focused on issues such as media aesthetics, history and memory, artificiality, installation, consumption, and ‘art’s status as a commodity.’ An example of Berlin’s early ascent to being considered a key European city for contemporary art and artists post-1989. Exhibited artists included: John Armleder, Ross Bleckner, Jan Fabre, Katharina Fritsch, Gary Hill, Jannis Kounellis, Olaf Metzel, Marcel Oldenbach, Gerhard Richter, Cindy Sherman, Jeff Wall, Franz West, etc.
