Important for understanding the special case of Germany in the context of the development of the ‘West,’ this huge (almost 900-page) book contains images and materials generated during an extensive interdisciplinary research and exhibition project, 2002–2006. The related exhibition took place at the Kölnischer Kunstverein and other venues in Cologne, 30.11.2005–15.01.2006. The project considered the impact of migration on German politics, economics, culture, society, and art in the period from 1955 to 2005 and was co-curated by Kathrin Rhomberg (FORMER WEST curator) and Marion von Osten (FORMER WEST research advisor). Artists/groups in the exhibition included: Vito Acconci, Pavel Braila, Harun Farocki, Hans-Peter Feldman, Kanak Attak, kein mensch ist illegal, Christian Philipp Müller, Henrik Olesen, Anni & Sibel Öztürk, Dan Perjovschi, Ultra-red, Bülent Şangar, Ann-Sofi Sidén, TRANSIT MIGRATION, Clemens von Wedemeyer, Tobias Zielony, etc.
