This book provides Wallerstein’s take on state of the world at the end of the 1990s through his well-known ‘world-systems’ perspective, focusing specifically on the global impact of the end of the Eastern bloc communist regimes and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the rise of Asia in dominating the global financial markets, globalization, migration and multiculturalism. Taking the most significant recent events and transformations into account, Wallerstein also suggests how they might affect our understanding of knowledge, truth, and disciplinary boundaries.
