Here Rancière presents discussion of the role of the image in contemporary art and the relationship between art and politics, arguing against a reactionary mystification of the image. See in particular ‘The Future of the Image’ and ‘Are Some Things Unrepresentable?.’ This work both reflects and in some ways reacts to the growing predominance of references to Rancière’s work in the contemporary art field, where it is quoted and misunderstood in equal measure.
